“Straight out the Gullah” is a STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Mathematics) project-based curriculum envisioned through Gullah Geechee history and culture. The interdisciplinary curriculum introduces students to the prominent role of Gullah Geechee people in the history of indigo, rice, cotton, and tobacco cultivation in the South of the United States. Focusing on the chemical processes, ecological relations, and environmental conditions associated with plantation labor, and everyday eco practices of Gullah peoples during and post emancipation.
